Glype

Glype proxy script is a web-based proxy application that is available for free and is designed to facilitate online anonymity and bypass internet restrictions. It is an open-source project, which means that users can view, modify, and distribute the code.

Licensing

However, it is important to note that while it is open-source, it is not distributed under the General Public License (GPL) or any similar licensing framework. Instead, users must adhere to specific licensing requirements.

These requirements include either maintaining a backlink to the original source of the script on their website or purchasing a paid license for those who prefer to remove the backlink obligation. This licensing approach allows the developers to offer the script for free while also providing options for users who want to utilize the software without the requirement of attribution.

History and current status

On May 7, 2010, Baron Munchausen, the administrator of Proxy.org announced that he acquired Glype. (source: http://forums.glype.com/news-updates/1286-baron-acquires-glype.html and http://proxy.org/forum/1273292889.html). Both links are dead now. The script has not been updated since 1.4.15. You can still get the last version of Glype from GitHub (https://github.com/vincentclee/glype), which probably is not the official source.

Advantages of Glype script

The Glype script has gained significant popularity, especially following the discontinuation of the PHProxy project. While both Glype and PHProxy serve a similar purpose as web proxy solutions, they differ in a critical aspect. Glype utilizes the cURL library to fetch web pages, which allows for more efficient handling of requests and improved performance. This capability enhances the overall user experience, as cURL is known for its reliability and flexibility in dealing with various internet protocols.

Additionally, Glype offers a range of advanced caching controls that are not present in PHProxy. These controls enable users to customize how content is cached, which can lead to faster page load times and reduced bandwidth consumption. By optimizing caching strategies, Glype allows users to tailor their proxy settings to better suit their needs, making it a more versatile option in the realm of web proxies. Overall, Glype addresses some of the limitations of PHProxy and has become a favored alternative among users seeking robust web proxy solutions.

The official website of Glype is: http://www.glype.com (it is redirected to proxy.org). A live example of Glype is UtopianPal.com (no longer offer free web proxy services).
